Brazillian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ)
Standing and ground-based functional martial art that applies technical fundamentals of posture, pressure, connection and weight distribution to immobilize opponents utilizing correct use of Distance management, Inside space control, Leverage, and Submission skills. Learn to defend against strikes and efficiently take your opponent to the ground to submission or learn to subdue opponents from a standing position. Brazilian jiu-jitsu can truly attest to learning about inner calm in the midst of stressful situations. Brazilian jiu-jitsu at SBG focuses on the four pillars of the art: Gi, No-Gi, MMA and self-defence. The intelligent martial art for a lifetime of enjoyable training!
Fundamental self-defence training runs concurrently in all classes, utilizing efficient application of jiu-jitsu, through training in awareness skills, distance management, strike defence, clinch with inside space control, leading to opponent immobilization.
Classes:
Intro & Foundation: Jiu-jitsu Foundation class after the Fundamentals class – here you will have the opportunity to drill and ask questions. A great opportunity to fast-track your progress! (Classes Tues and Thursday 6.00pm + 15 minutes after for Q and A with the coach.
Fundamentals 101 (1 to 2 stripes): Positional breakdown and drilling, Takedown intro, Combatives, Flow Rolling and positional sparring
Intermediate 201 (3 stripes to Blue): Fundamentals, Wrestling & Takedowns, Jitz with Hitz, Gi and No-Gi rolling
Advanced 301 (upper blue to black belt + 201 Competition Team): Deep dive into the BJJ curriculum – Gi & No-Gi, MMA sparring
